Well, it’s finally here, the PS3. Did I get one – no unfortunately. It was pretty mad here in the US yesterday evening as most stores opened at 00.01am to long queues of gamers eager to get their hands on one. I took a more civilised approach by calling my local Walmart to be told they had only four in stock, despite this, they had queues around the block. The question is if everyone knew the store only had four, why still queue. I don’t quite get that.![]()
In San Francisco at the Metreon there was high security, police escorts, 12 officers and two security firms controlling the crowd. There have been muggings, shootings and store robberies for these things. Is it really worth that much?
As for demand out stripping supply, I sometime wonder if the supply is artificially set low by Sony to increase the hype. I also do not understand that these pieces of kits are loss leaders for Sony as they probably lose around $300 per unit. They could still sell these things at $1000 and still get massive market penetration. Anyway, I’m no marketing guru.
I’ll still be looking to get one, I’m still interested as it looks like a nice piece of kit.
